Mott Haven, NY - Home Design
Nestled in the Southwestern area of the Bronx, the vibrant historic area of Mott Haven is home for our amazing clients who purchased a semi attached, single family brick home, originally built in 1999. By project-end, we fully re-imagined the original layout and aesthetic of the home to cater to the modern needs of a young family of 4.
The Mott Haven area, though historic, has recently attracted lots of young families and professionals looking to enjoy the unique cafés, attractions, green spaces, waterfronts and culture. As many new contemporary residential developments tower throughout Mott Haven, we provided our clients the same level of luxury and modernity within existing real estate, maintaining the tight-knit residential character of their immediate community.
What once was a choppy, dark, and outdated first floor is now fully opened, bright and airy. After relocating the main stair, we were able to focus on flow and space saving techniques to accommodate both the everyday demands of family life and occasional entertaining. With the open layout our client comfortably has a designated living area, dining area and a chef’s size kitchen with a lots of storage provided by the full-height pantry, double sided cabinets under the peninsula and the use nooks and crannies formerly buried behind walls, all uncovered during the demolition process.
Throughout the home, the use of Benjamin Moore’s “Alabaster” on the walls and a light Canadian Oak wood floor by Wickham Flooring creates a clean foundation for our client’s contemporary furniture and colorful pop artwork. With the home taking on this neutral and minimal aesthetic, we seized the perfect opportunity to also integrate pops of color and texture; specifically, the subtly vibrant blush wall tiles, brass lined black hex tile, and Carrera marble porcelain in the main bathroom, a handmade tiled sapphire blue vent hood in the kitchen, and “Lush,” the Benjamin Moore paint color used throughout the 1st floor powder bath.
All in all, this home renovation was a dream come true for our clients and they plan to enjoy its character and customizations for years to come.
